Five QLD women have been selected to lead the 2024 Queensland Rowing Team at next year’s Interstate Regatta.
The Queensland Team trains every week on ‘State Team Tuesday’ leading into the National Championships in Penrith in March 2024. The support team is entirely voluntary. If you would like to support the coaches and selectors, please reach out to AWR.
Congratulations:
Ange Ellis – Queensland Women’s VIII Coach – Ange coached the Women’s VIII in 2021 to 4th place. Ange has extensive coaching history – most notably with the Queensland Masters Team. Her crews have won multiple National Championships from 2014 to 2023. Ange has been instrumental in the continued development of the Three Mile Race campaign as a coach and is a founding member of AWR.
Sally Kehoe – Queensland Women’s VIII Coach – Sally is the highest capped Queensland Rower, having represented the maroon eleven times in the single scull and VIII. A three-time Olympian, Sally competed internationally in VIIIs, Doubles and Quads. She coached school/club crews, before returning to QLD. She is a member of the Rowing Queensland Board of Directors with a focus on high performance.
Emma McCarthy – Queensland Women’s VIII Coach – Emma represented Queensland seven times in the Women’s VIII and went on to row for Australia and reserve for the 2012 Olympics. Emma coached the Stuartholme First VIII to Head of River victory in 2018, before joining the Queensland Schools Pathway team in 2019. She coached the Queensland Youth VIII in 2020 and Women’s VIII in 2021.
Clare Raven – Queensland Youth Women’s VIII Coach – Clare represented Queensland in 2007-2008 and has been a passionate supporter of women’s rowing ever since. She has spent most of her coaching career with youth women at St Peters Lutheran College & Toowong Rowing Club. In previous years, Clare was on the selection committee and has switched to the coaching boat for 2024.
Susan Shakespear – State Team Selector – Susan has been coaching rowing in Queensland for over a decade. She has coached the Australian Junior Team, Queensland Rowing Team and Champion First VIIIs at Somerville House.
